Two Questions

Isn't it illegal to hang pictures of Hindu gods in government offices? And have priests come in and conduct prayers on (what appeared to be) a daily basis?

Why do actors in Hinglish movies sound like they've stepped out of a high school play? (Context? I watched Dance Like a Man a few days ago)

1: In this country, nothing is illegal.

2: Stop giving high school plays a bad name, I say.

1. yeah, as eye said, nothing is illegal, especially in the labyrinthe governmental complexes, they simply explain it away by saying that it's freedom of religion, not from religion, and there's a picture of JC in the north-eastern hallway of H-block annexure 3 sub-division XIII (7)(3)(iii)(d).

2. Two words, one movie: Morning Raaga.

Eye: Yep, fair enough. In practice, of course nothing in this country is illegal. But in theory?

Ok, if not high school plays, any play I've seen in Madras. The one you were in (what was it called?) being the sole exception.

The RTO (saw the pictures of gods there) in Kilpauk is a joke, you know?

Bobo: Ah, Wanted to hear your opinion. But surely one can say that in any given govt. office, you can't have pictures of gods of one particular religion alone- since we are a secular nation, and we don't want to offend anyone etc.?

Morning Raaga- that bad, eh?

i watched a mahesh dattani play some years back about the gujrat earthquake, involving (if memory serves right) a long conversation about family values and morality and suchlike between an old lady and her grandson both trapped under a pile of rubble. having personally experienced the actual conditions of an earthquake -- in which persistent tremors, falling rubble and constant fear paralyse your every peripheral instinct, in which intellectual debate is as far from your mind as the immediate likelihood of survival -- i think i have some right to criticise it. the play was rubbish, and the playwright is an ill-considered jack-off who should stick to writing about what he knows (i.e., hanging about in coffee houses and pontificating to his little tail-wagging asswipes about gay rights and suchlike)...
